*About*
As a public relations student who graduates in May 2008 from Belmont University, I noticed I was not just missing the boat, but the cruise ship, by not having a blog of my own.
Honestly, I sometimes I still think, “Well, gosh, there are so many blogs already out there, what’s the point – besides to tout on a resume that I have one?” First off, as an emerging PR practitioner, I should have more confidence that I can write something fresh and intriguing. Secondly, I can’t deny that I will probably write or oversee one for a future employer, and having a blog gets me better acquainted with the blogging world (and social media in general).
After convincing myself authoring a blog is essential, the next task was to decide what the theme should be; will this ship explore the world and write on all things PR, or will it stick in Alaska and focus on a certain niche.
Pondering the possibilities, I realized I could best write about something I have the most experience with – being an emerging public relations practitioner. I am a small fish in the expanding pond (literally, haven’t you heard? the glaciers are melting) of public relations practitioners.
Hence the title “Raw Relations.” Sure, I’ve had some experience here and there in the real world of public relations/publicity, but as a guppy, I’m still pretty “raw,” with so much to learn. Also, I am completely honest about everything, and sometimes reveal more than people want to know. As I start interviewing for jobs, I will be putting myself out there, exposing everything necessary to differentiate from other candidates.I noticed a lot of related blogs have “PR” somewhere in the title. Not only did I want to set mine apart, I believe my main focus in the field is on relations and relationships.
It is my goal to ultimately move from this sushi-like state to salmon wellington. That of course will take time, but I intend to stick through it and stay with you. So for now, I thank you joining me on my excursion and for taking time to read “Raw Relations” among the sea of blogs out there. I truly hope this blog will be of use to you.
See you on the “Odyssey” deck
